About Artist

Welcome

I was born and grew up on a farm in Co. Galway between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask, along the Wild Atlantic Way. Surrounded by such a variety of landscape, waterscapes, woods and wildlife, I had a happy childhood. Art along with music, dance and singing was always a form of expression for me. I grew up in a family, surrounded by music and art.

Mount Gable was always to my right as I came out our front door and I looked on it as a steady constant in my life.

As I stood on a hill on the farm I had a panoramic view, starting with Lough Corrib on towards Lough Mask. A sense of Salthill and Galway Bay to the south lingered in my mind. The beautiful Lough Mask and the Tourmakeady mountains are to the north and north west, rolling green farmland, Cong and Headford to the east and the vastness of Connemara, Cornamona, Maam, Maamcross ( where I spent my childhood on the bog) Leenane and Clifden to the west. Animals and wildlife were always around me too.

It was my Heaven!

So art was a natural way to express myself, even as a child. I had such a rich tapestry all around me I was intoxicated by it as a child and disliked the confines of the classroom as I saw it as getting in the way of my own natural curiosity. I saw primary school as a hindrance and a confinement. I wanted to be free and explore, learn and experience life first hand.

I liked secondary school and enjoyed books and writing. I decided then I would continue with this.

I went on to Trinity College, Dublin, after secondary school and completed my degree there. I worked in a different field for some years but eventually I found myself distracted and pining for a more creative life once more.

I found that no matter where I travelled, I kept that panoramic childhood view in my mind and once while in the alps in Austria I found myself longing for the Wild Atlantic Way back home.

Later, while I was in Munich, Germany, I was encouraged to paint again. I slowly started to view the world around me as an artist once more. My days started to look colourful again. My thirst for art hit me like a bolt. I couldn’t stop it this time.

Every day I’m in my studio there is a never ending flow of images, memories and imagination wanting to be painted. The thirst for painting and trying new techniques hasn’t been quelched.

I like trying different mediums. I love oils, watercolours, inks, charcoal and acrylics. I like experimenting and hope to get the chance to do it for a long time to come.

I appreciate you taking the time to visit my website. I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you!

My art is in private collections around the world.

I also have an art studio in Headford, Co. Galway, Ireland.
